The bottom line

The number one reason to choose Amica as your car insurance company is its top-tier customer service. Amica receives fewer complaints than average from policyholders.

Amica also offers a wide range of car insurance coverage options to choose from, including gap insurance. Drivers can also get Amica’s Platinum Choice Auto package, which combines full glass coverage, new car replacement coverage, and top-tier rental car reimbursement.

Amica isn’t the cheapest car insurance company around, especially for drivers who have been in an accident, gotten a DUI, or have another driving violation on their records, but it has lower-than-average rates for drivers with a clean record.

Pros

  • Outstanding customer service

  • Wide range of coverage options, including a premium tier

  • Affordable rates for good drivers

Cons

  • Can be pricey for drivers with spotty records

Basic coverages offered

Amica offers all the standard types of car insurance coverage that most people need. Since each state has different car insurance requirements, the coverage that Amica offers in your area may depend on where you live, but the basics include:

  • Bodily injury liability: Covers medical bills for other drivers or their passengers after an accident you cause.

  • Property damage liability: Covers repairs or the cost of replacing someone else's damaged vehicle or property after an accident you cause.

  • Collision coverage: Covers damage to your car if it’s caused by a collision with another driver or object, regardless of fault.

  • Comprehensive coverage: Covers damage to your car that’s not caused by a collision, like damage from animals, water, and vandalism.

  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist: Covers injuries and damage after an accident caused by a driver without insurance or without enough insurance.

  • Personal injury protection: Covers the cost of injuries to you and your passengers after an accident, as well as lost wages, and even funeral expenses, regardless of fault (PIP is required in no-fault states).

  • Medical payments: Covers the costs if you and your passengers if you’re injured in an accident, usually up to a lower limit than PIP.

Additional coverages offered

Amica also offers a wide range of car insurance endorsements, meaning extra coverage types you can add to your policy. Those include:

  • Gap coverage: Called auto loan/lease coverage on the Amica website, this pays the difference between the remainder of your car’s loan or lease and the insurance payout you receive after an accident.

  • Full glass coverage: Waives your deductible when you file a claim to repair or replace a broken windshield or windows.

  • New car replacement coverage: Reimburses you for the cost of a new car if your vehicle is totaled (your car must be newer than one model year old with fewer than 15,000 miles).

  • Roadside assistance coverage: Covers fuel delivery, tire changes, jump starts, towing, and other services if your car breaks down.

  • Rental reimbursement coverage: Covers the cost of a rental car, rideshare, taxi, train, or other form of transportation after your car is damaged in a covered incident.

Amica also offers a premium coverage package that combines a group of top-tier car insurance coverages, including full glass repair, new car replacement coverage, up to $5,000 in rental car reimbursement coverage, and credit monitoring services. You can add any one of these coverages without enrolling in the premium package, too.

Although Amica isn't the cheapest auto insurance company, it's still an affordable option as long as you have a clean record. But for high risk drivers, Amica is one of the more expensive options.

Amica car insurance discounts

Amica doesn't have the cheapest rates for car insurance, but drivers can save more by qualifying for available insurance discounts, which include:

  • Automatic payment discount: Receive a discount when you have your car insurance premiums automatically deducted from your credit card or bank account.

  • Bundling discount: Amica offers a 30% discount to drivers who also get a homeowners, condo, renters, life, or umbrella insurance policy.

  • Continuous coverage discount: Drivers get a discount for having at least two years of continuous car insurance coverage with no lapses, even if they switched to Amica from another company..

  • Defensive driving class discount: Drivers can earn a discount for completing an approved defensive driving course.

  • Distant student discount: Save if your household includes a full-time student who lives away from home without a family car.

  • Homeowner discount: Get a discount if you own your home, even if you don’t insure it with Amica.

  • Multi-vehicle discount: Insure more than one vehicle on the same Amica policy and save up to 25%.

  • Paperless billing: Opt to receive your bills online and get a slightly lower rate.

  • Pay-in-full discount: Pay your entire premium at once instead of monthly and receive a discounted rate.

  • Safe-driver discount: Drivers with no claims in the past three years receive a discount from Amica.

  • Safe-vehicle discounts: Receive a discount if your car has tech like a collision-warning or accident-avoidance system, or adaptive headlights.

  • Secure vehicle discount: Amica offers a discount to drivers whose car has anti-theft technology.

Amica also offers a few discounts specifically for young drivers, whose rates are often expensive thanks to their inexperience. Teens and young adults who are insured with Amica should ask about special discounts, including:

  • Good student discount: Drivers ages 15 to 25 can get a discount by getting at least a “B” GPA in high school or college (if they’re full time students).

  • Legacy insured discount: Young drivers whose parents have had an Amica policy for at least 5 years can qualify for this discount when they buy their own policy.

  • Young driver training discount: Drivers under 21 can get a discount for completing a special driving safety and training class.

Where is Amica car insurance available?

Amica car insurance is available in every state except for Hawaii. Amica is most popular in New England, according to NAIC data. It's a great option in states like Massachusetts and Rhode Island where other large companies (like State Farm) don't offer coverage.
